This forest part belonging to the Debrecen-Hajdúböszörmény oak forests Natura 2000 forest block has been protected since 1981 based on the proposal of Dr. Mihály Sóvágó, a lawyer from Böszörmény who also worked on ornithological research who passed away recently. The older trees of one of the last old sand oaks in the Böszörmény forest are between 100 and 150 years old. Nyírerdő Zrt. is the property manager of the state-owned forest with topographic number 086/1a, which is located in forest planning members 35D and 36D with an area of 13 hectares. As the name of the association indicates, its two characteristic plant species are the lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis) and the pedunculated oak (Quercus robur). Unfortunately, it is not abundant in early spring bulbous plants (geophytons), but some character species can still be found here (e.g. Arum orientale, Platanthera bifolia, Polygonatum odoratum). And although the highly protected and native Hungarian iris (Iris aphylla subsp. hungarica) disappeared from the forest at the turn of the millennium, dozens of its specimens were replanted within the framework of the Na-Tu-Re project with the help of the Botanical Garden of the University of Debrecen during 2020-2021.
The fauna of the forest area is also rich, especially its bird life. But the still existing diversity is also significant in wild and diurnal butterflies. We can also meet some reptile and amphibian species, especially in wetter years. The protected part of the forest, which can be visited freely, can be approached in the easiest way from the village of Bodaszőlő, starting north from the inner forest rest house. The forest is located along the route of a natural gas pipeline from Russia, which also cuts the oak in two. The corners of the protected area are marked with an oval sign
